Providing schools and colleges with expertise and inspiration for Careers Education and Guidance

The Association for Careers Education and Guidance (ACEG) is the subject association for all those who lead, manage and deliver Careers Education and Guidance (CEG) in schools and colleges in England and Wales. Our key purpose is to promote excellence and innovation in CEG for the benefit of all young people. Through our journals, newsletters, annual conference and website we ensure that members have access to:
- the latest thinking and research into effective CEG
- reports and briefings on policy developments including statutory requirements
- curriculum guidance, classroom resources and examples of good practice
- professional development opportunities
- occupational and labour market information.
In addition, ACEG spends considerable energy lobbying for CEG at the highest level. We are key players in the national debate on the future of careers guidance provision and are working tirelessly to maintain Careers Education and WRL as statutory elements of the curriculum in England. We also help to shape developments in CEG by taking part in relevant national consultations regarding CEG and WRL and in conducting research projects involving current issues in schools and colleges.
We hold an annual conference showcasing the best practice and current issues in CEG and run short training courses and other events periodically.
ACEG has an Executive of five elected officers and two joint general secretaries responsible for the business management of the Association and the implementation of Association policy. The Executive is supported by up to eight Council members also elected by members of the Association.
There is also a network of Local Contacts and National Consultants who are all experienced practitioners in Careers Education and Guidance. Local contacts act as a point of contact for members and, with the national consultants, share the work of representing the Association at meetings and events. Local contacts and national consultants are also invited to attend meetings of the Consultative Council which meets at least three times per year and helps steer ACEG policy.
